The reliability of any utility’s system is highly dependent on overhead line installation and management. The Overhead Workshop/Hotline School offers an ideal opportunity for lineworkers to learn and practice hands-on techniques in a simulated field setting in order to sharpen their skills, review practical applications, and safely perform tasks in a controlled environment.
Organized by CVTC and MEUW
Hands-on training both in the classroom and in the training building on the campus of Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC). Intended for all lineworkers – regardless of experience level – to sharpen their skills and practice vital tasks in a safe and controlled environment.
Workshop schedule:
Tuesday, April 28 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (lunch will be provided by RESCO)
Wednesday, April 29 — 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (lunch will be provided by Utility Sales and Service, Irby Utlities, Milwaukee Tools, and Altec Industries)
> Vendor show from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Thursday, April 30 — 7 to 11 a.m.
Planned topics to be covered may include: Truck safety and inspections, harnesses and inspections, bucket self- rescue, practicing different outside activities in de-energized pole yard; pole change out, arm change out, moving around different areal apparatus, three phase banking, storm restoration, bucket rescue, and more.
Note: Specific topics covered may change based on presenter availability.
Utilities and companies that are able to send a bucket truck to use during training will receive one complementary Workshop registration. Please contact Kendal Schmidt at CVTC to coordinate.
Registration fee:
> $195 per person
(3rd and 4th year CVTC apprentices are automatically enrolled as part of their apprenticeship program at no cost)
