One of the many hazards employees encounter on a regular basis, are those posed by excavations. As with any hazard, a well-trained employee is the best defense against injuries on the job.
MEUW is pleased to offer Excavation Competent Person training provided by Tim Palet, an instructor who brings decades of knowledge and experience to this training that includes both classroom and hands-on field training.
Attendees will review OSHA’s 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P Excavation Standard (adopted and enforced by the state under SPS 332) and learn:
- Safety aspects of excavation and trenching
- How to conduct soil analysis using various testing methods
- Identify potential hazards
- Protective systems and shoring options
- How to safely plan an excavation jobsite
- Understand the role of a competent person at an excavation site
The training would certify the attendees to be qualified. Per OSHA a "competent person" is defined as "one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them" [29 CFR 1926.32(f)].
> Cost is $175 for MEUW members and $225 for non-MEUW members.
Cancellations are subject to MEUW Policy.
