The reliability of any utility’s system is highly dependent on overhead line installation and management. The Overhead Workshop/Hotline School offers an ideal opportunity for lineworkers to learn and practice hands-on techniques in a simulated field setting in order to sharpen their skills, review practical applications, and safely perform tasks in a controlled environment.

Organized by CVTC and MEUW

Hands-on training both in the classroom and in the training building on the campus of Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC). Intended for all lineworkers – regardless of experience level – to sharpen their skills and practice vital tasks in a safe and controlled environment.

Workshop schedule:
Tuesday, April 23 12:00 to 5 p.m. (lunch will be provided)
Wednesday, April 24 — 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (lunch will be provided)
     > Vendor show from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Thursday, April 25 — 7 to 11 a.m.

Planned topics to be covered may include: tree demonstrations and cutting trees off of lines under tension; drone training for damage assessment and maintenance, infrared picture-taking and demonstrations; F/R and arc flash clothing; grounding; stringing wire with rope machines; backyard machines; pole setting with skid steer; storm trouble-shooting; changing out primary bells; three-phase banking and floating to primary neutral; replacing a single-phase transformer; spicing broken wire; three-phase arm changeouts; performing hot tasks in primary gloves.
