MEUW
is the state association representing the locally-owned,
locally-controlled municipal electric utilities in Wisconsin. The
association has served municipal electric utilities in Wisconsin since
1928. MEUW's 82 member communities range in size from Manitowoc with a
population of 35,000, to Merrillan with a population of 582. Collectively, these 82 public
power utilities distribute over 11 percent of the electricity in Wisconsin. Most have
roots going back close to a century or more. All are operated on a not-for-profit basis,
and overseen by a local governing board composed of local citizens and elected officials.
All are dedicated to providing low-cost, reliable electricity to their citizens, farms,
businesses and industries. |
