Workshop Overview, Agenda & Hotel Information
The MEUW JT&S Underground Facility Locating Workshop will be taught by Christopher Koch. Koch has nearly twenty years in damage prevention and has been responsible for the training of thousands of technicians coast to coast, as well as in Canada and Australia. He has served as secretary, vice president, and president of the National Utility Locating Contractors Association and co- chaired the committee to revise the NULCA Professional Competency Standard for Locating Technicians in 2009 and played a role in the 2015 revision.
The workshop will cover information found in Units 1-3 of the National Utility Locating Contractors Association (NULCA) Professional Competency Standard including locating theory, use of the transmitter and use of the receiver. Participants will enjoy an engaging and entertaining classroom session and then have the opportunity to practice locating outdoors using a variety of instruments and techniques. Several written exams will be included as well as a hands-on skills assessment. All learners will receive a certificate documenting the training received.
Who Should Attend?
Today’s locate technician is charged with locating and protecting vital infrastructure, facilities that provide electricity, natural gas, telephone and data, water and wastewater services to customers. Knowledgeable, well-trained locate technicians are the primary “protectors” of this complex infrastructure. This workshop is targeted to water, wastewater, cable T.V. and public works employees in addition to the electric utility.
